A Warm Welcome to the

Interim Dean
I am both honored and humbled to introduce myself as the Interim Dean of Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. It is a privilege to serve such a vibrant and accomplished group of faculty, staff, and students, who are truly remarkable. I am confident that my time at SPH-B during this period of transition will be a rewarding milestone in my journey at IU.
In addition to this role, I continue to serve as Dean of the IU School of Optometry, which is committed to training, research, and innovation. The shared mission of both schools to improve human health brings a sense of continuity and purpose to this transition. I find myself surrounded by individuals who are passionate about teaching, eager to learn, and deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of others.
I am also deeply inspired by our extraordinary students and dedicated alumni. Our students bring curiosity, determination, and purpose to their academic and professional journeys, and our alumni, through their impact in public health, healthcare, policy, and education, are a living testament to the strength and value of an SPH-B education. Their accomplishments help elevate the school’s reputation both nationally and globally.
As I step into this role, I remain steadfast in my commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to thrive. Schools flourish when their communities are united by mutual respect, shared purpose, and open dialogue. I will do my part to ensure that these principles remain at the heart of our work.
The reputation of SPH-B is built on the extraordinary work of our faculty and staff, whether advancing knowledge in areas such as aging, water quality, disease prevention, and sexual and reproductive health, or delivering award-winning support across campus and in the community. Your efforts make Indiana—and the world—a healthier and better place.
I am grateful for all the school has accomplished, and for the achievements yet to come. It is with great respect and enthusiasm that I join you in leading SPH-B during this pivotal time of transition and opportunity.

Executive Associate Dean
Hello! I'm NiCole Keith, Executive Associate Dean. On behalf of the leadership team in the Deans’ Office at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington, I welcome you. Every day, we have the privilege of working at the intersection of wellness and learning and I am honored to be leading our vibrant community! While I have an extensive background in exercise science and health promotion, serving Indiana University as an educator and administrator has been a cornerstone of my career. My ongoing research focuses on cultivating—and communicating about—healthier outcomes for all people throughout their lives and I will continue to collaborate with our SPH-B community and partners to pursue this important mission.
We at SPH-B are a truly world-class team. Producing groundbreaking and award-winning teaching, research, and service, our dedicated faculty members are a precious resource to our students, our university, Indiana, the nation, and the world. The members of our staff are professionals who are equipped with the integrity and strength necessary to help our school deliver on its commitment to "promote health among all people…through integrated multidisciplinary approaches to scientific endeavors, creative activities, educational practices, and community engagement."
Whether you are familiar with the School of Public Health-Bloomington (officially renamed in 2012); our former incarnation as the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER); or are learning about us for the first time, I am thrilled that you are here. I welcome you to learn more. And I encourage you to seek wellness in every aspect of your life. Time invested in a healthier body, mind, family, and world is an incredibly worthwhile endeavor.
Sincerely,
NiCole R. Keith, Ph.D.
